Five Tips for Healthy Communication

Many qualities that make a relationship strong and healthy are rooted in communication.

Relationships that foster open communication allow for an honest exploration of each other’s thoughts, feelings, and needs.

This includes utilization of skills such as:

  • Active listening,

  • Presenting your feelings,

  • Being in the moment in the conversation,

  • Showing interest via non-verbal and verbal cues,

  • Expressing empathy and validation.

Understanding each other MUST be the first goal of communication.

Only after you understand each others perspectives can you try to problem-solve a solution or take any other action.

Remember, healthy relationships don’t just prioritize communication, they prioritize OPEN communication, meaning that expressions of differences, conflict, feelings, and needs, are welcomes and encouraged.
